Palm Springs Hotels Pair Pool Days With a Downtown Tradeoff

Last updated:

A Palm Springs pool day can end two ways: walk out for a downtown dinner, or stay within a resort estate for the evening. Choose Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs if exploring downtown is part of the vacation. Choose Parker Palm Springs if the hotel grounds are the main event. Both have pools, but their settings make for different trips: Rowan describes itself as a downtown hotel with a rooftop pool and bar; Parker has three pools across a private 13-acre estate. Rowan puts the pool above a downtown stay

At Rowan, the rooftop pool and bar give a day of swimming an easy transition into an evening out. The hotel also lists 4 Saints, Juniper Table and High Bar among its dining options. Its address is 100 W. Tahquitz Canyon Way, in downtown Palm Springs, so this is the better base for travelers who want the freedom to leave the hotel for restaurants and nightlife without building the stay around a car. That convenience changes the pool experience. Rowan offers a rooftop setting rather than Parker’s spread of lawns, games and multiple pools. Pick it for a city break with pool time built in, especially if different dinners and downtown outings matter more to you than a full day on hotel grounds. Kimpton Rowan Parker Palm Springs

Parker makes staying in the plan

Parker’s estate gives you more to do between swims. Its three pools sit alongside a croquet lawn, pétanque, bicycles and an evening fire pit. Dining is another reason to linger: the hotel names Norma’s for all-day dining, mister parker’s for dinner and Counter Reformation for wine, alongside other on-site options. Its pools are reserved for registered guests, and it does not offer pool day passes. If those grounds are the reason you want to visit, book a room rather than planning to drop in for an afternoon. The address, 4200 E. Palm Canyon Drive, places Parker away from Rowan’s downtown base. Plan transport for downtown meals or shopping rather than treating them as an extension of the hotel. Parker suits travelers happy to spend much of a vacation day on the estate, then make a deliberate trip into town when they want a change. Parker Palm Springs Kimpton Rowan

Make the booking decision on the full stay

Parker lists a $50 plus tax resort fee per room, per night. It says that fee includes Wi-Fi, gym access, estate bicycles, croquet and pétanque, among other items. Guests bringing a car should also account for its $50 plus tax daily valet parking charge; the hotel says parking is valet only. Those charges matter most when weighing a resort stay against a downtown base, but the hotel pages do not establish comparable room totals for the same dates and guests. Parker Palm Springs

For a trip built around downtown dinners and outings, save Rowan: you still get a pool day, with the city close at hand. For a trip built around several hours by the water, games and meals on one estate, save Parker and budget for its stated fees. Before booking either, compare the final total for your dates and party; the experience you intend to spend time enjoying is the clearest reason to choose between them.
